Adobe products are widely used by artists all over the world to crete visual and audio content. There are already 50+ apps, and sometimes even pro can’t say what is the difference between them. For example, what is the difference between Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Illustrator? Do you know 🙂 ?

Adobe Photoshop

The most renowned software. It’s so iconic that nowadays it’s used as a verb in English language. Adobe Photoshop is a raster (pixel-based) graphics editor. It is a software application for image editing and photo retouching. Photoshop offers users the ability to create, enhance images, artwork, and illustrations. Various layer masks help to do editing in a quicker and more efficient manner. You can remove or add objects, enhance them, adjust lighting, focus, noise, etc.

Adobe Photoshop Elements

A dumbed down version of Adobe Photoshop. It contains most of the features of the professional version but with fewer and simpler options. The program allows users to create, edit, organize and share images.

Adobe Illustrator

It might look similar to Adobe Photoshop, because both are used for picture design. But in contrary to Photoshop Illustrator is used for vector graphics. Photoshop saves image as a volume of pixels, while Illustrator stores image as mathematical equasions. So it can scale down for mobile screens and up to billboard size — and always look crisp and beautiful. Unfortunatly this technologie doesn’t allow to work with detailed photos.

Illustrator is great for making logos, graphics, comics, fonts, and much more.

Adobe Lightroom

Lightroom allows importing/saving, viewing, organizing, tagging, editing, and sharing large numbers of digital images. It can also be used for minor edits like color balance, brightness or contrast of large collections of photos. Best for organizing and catologinig thousands of photos.

Adobe Bridge

Adobe Bridge is a free digital asset management app. Bridge is a visual media manager that allows to organize, browse and view media files just like Lightroom. But it can handle with more types of files and works well with other Adobe software. To edit photographs in Bridge, you need to have Adobe Camera Raw plug-in that allows you to edit and enhance any photo, including JPGS.

Adobe Premiere Pro

Premiere Pro is a professional timeline-based video editing app. It is the industry-leading video editing software for film, TV, and the web. It’s used from making Youtube videos to Hollywood blockbuster movies. You can cut, edit and trim large number of clips and then sequintially arrange them on a layered timeline where you can add effects to your video. You can add text, transition, audio effects and much more.

Adobe Premiere Elements

It is a scaled-down version of Adobe Premiere Pro and is tailored to novice editors and consumers. The entry screen offers clip organization, editing and auto-movie generation options.

Adobe After Effects

Basically Photoshop for videos. Commonly used in the post-production process of film making, video games and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing, and animation. Unfortunatly you can work only with one video at a time. It’s not designed for final editing the final sequence of the video. After you create the visual effects you need to export it to Premiere-Pro to make the final video.

Adobe Media Encoder

Media Encoder is a special software for rendering the video which you have created in Premier Pro or After Effects. In order to make your video play back smoothly on devices without fast processors, tons of RAM, and/or to play across cellular and/or WiFi networks, they must be compressed. AME is responsible for encoding video files to the proper format to ensure they play on different devices videos are watched on today.

Adobe Prelude

Prelude is a tool for tagging media with metadata for searching, post-production workflows, and footage lifecycle management. Adobe Prelude is also made to work closely with Adobe Premiere Pro. It’s also used to chop off unnecessary parts and sync various shots.

Adobe Audition

Audition is a digital audio workstation featuring both a multitrack, non-destructive mix/edit environment and a destructive-approach waveform editing view. Adobe Audition is the perfect application for recording and mixing audio for video, podcasting, and sound effect design. Audition is also an industry-leading tool for cleaning up recordings and audio restoration.

Adobe Flash Professional

Flash Professional is a software used to make simple 2D animations, games and applications.

Adobe Flash Builder

This software is also used for making games and apps, but more into programming than animation.

Adobe Scout

This software is used for analyzing performance issues in the hames made with flash.

Adobe Animate

Due to better technologies like HTML 5, and bad reputation of Flash, Adobe renamed Flash to Adobe Animate and added several new features.
